The neutral sleep position

The best position for sleep for fibromyalgia sufferers is a modified fetal position. Instead of curling completely up, curl up on your side, but only about half way, so that your back is comfortable and your legs are slightly bent.

I have had FM for over 20 years, and this is the way I have slept for many of those; however, for about the past couple years, intermittently I will wake up with excruciating pain in my left ear (side I sleep on). Took a long time for me to figure out it is muscle pain. Anyone else?

Hi Maureen. Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting.

I have a technique I use on my ears for ear pain like that.

I gently tug all around the ear to stretch the muscles around the ear. Occasionally I will use my index finger and press lightly around the inside of my ear. You're ear is spasming and the stretching and pressure gets it to relax.

Try that and then come back and post your results.

Again, thank you for stopping by. I hope this blog serves as a tool in your journey.

Wow, this is good to read. I sleep in the fetal position already, but have been trying to "unwind" it a bit because I feel like it causes all my muscles to be tensed up in the a.m. I have been trying to, like you suggested, straighten my back and face my head straight instead of curling it up towards my chest. Thank you!!
